Georgia O'Keeffe was married to Alfred Stieglitz, an American photographer and modern art promoter who was instrumental in making photography an accepted art form. (It's hard to imagine now, but during its infancy, it was simply seen as a novelty.) O'Keeffe was heavily influenced by him, particularly composition, close-ups, framing, and extreme cropping of subject matter.
"I believe I would rather have Stieglitz like something - anything I had done - than anyone else I know." ~Georgia O'Keeffe She was also very good friends with Ansel Adams, and there is extended research on how both photography and photographers played a significant role in her career. Later in life, she routinely picked up a camera herself to photograph landscapes she would later turn into paintings. |
